Description
Thomas Rees was the publisher of The State Journal-Register in Springfield, Illinois, from 1881-1933. Rees served as an Illinois State Senator from 1902-1906. After traveling through Belgium and the Netherlands with his wife, Rees donated $200,000 to the city of Springfield for the construction and maintenance of a carillon and tower. The city dedicated the completed structure to Thomas Rees in 1962.
