Dear Sir: If the appointment has not been made, and no more competent person shall present himself and be chosen, and if the appointments are not all to be made from the immediate vicinity of Alton, I respectfully ask the commission as Adjutant of the regiment---to be raised for duty at that place. I ask this from the fact, first, that owing to a partial disability of the right limb I am unfit for duty in the ranks, but entirely competent, physically, to fill this place. Secondly, because of my desire to enter the service in any capacity in which I can make myself useful. Or, if another should be selected, I would willingly serve in the capacity of Quartermaster or Commissarie's Sargeant---anywhere where I can make my services available. I am a young attorney residing in this city, a Republican, "Abolition," Union man, and can furnish recommendations of character, &c. which will be satisfactory. And this is my first

If my application shall be regarded favorably, a communication will reach me at this place (box 6166) or, if desired, I will report at any place requested, for such further communication as may be wished.
