&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Dear Sir, today an election was held in Capt Groves Co. and my friend Sumner was beaten.  And Mr. Moon was elected.  I had no desire to interfere in the matter further than to see justice done.  If true, as the petition showed a majority were in favor of Sumner, I thought he ought to have it. But it seems, if it was true that the company at a formal election changed their minds. I do not wish it to be understood that I desire the appointment of Sumner against the voice of a majority of the Company.  
&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Some of our Battalion have been in service since the latter part of Sept. and we are expecting to be ordered into the field.  Many of the men are married and poor, and their wives and children need their wages. And they particularly desire to send the money home before they go. Our pay Rolls are in the hands of Maj. Wilcox at Springfield.  I do not think we have 50$ in the Battalion. If you would see Major Wilcox and send him over to pay us, you would really be a good Samaritan. If Maj. W. has the money, and is merely consulting his own convenience by delay I fear he will hear the cry of some women and children
