My Dear Sir:

Your letter of the 21st ult. was received during my absence at Washington. I take the earliest moment since my return home to say, that we are now daily looking for arms, and that the “Koerner regiment” shall be amongst the very first provided for.

I deeply sympathize with yourself & family in your present bereavement. This will be a marked era for distress & calamity, in which none seem to escape. I hope we shall met when you again visit the capital.
