Dear Sir:
Your kind note of the 13th inst., communicating the invitation of the gentlemanly proprietors of the Sherman House to accept the hospitalities of their House, is before me.
My official duties press so heavily upon my time, that I will not be able to visit the city of Chicago the present month. I beg you however to convey to the Proprietors my sincere thanks for their very generous offer, with the hope that at some future time, I may avail myself of their invitation. [illegible]
