To Govenor Yates

Dear Sir

I wrote you some two weeks ago concerning the discharge of my son James E Beckum a Soldier in company E 101 regiment Ills voleteers he enlisted it will be two years next August, his Father since died and has left me with four little children to support and no home for them I have heard since the last battle at Chattanooga that he is now in the hospital and if it is a possible thing that you can get him discharged you will oblige me very much you state [illegible] in your letter to me which you wrote some time since that you had writen to the secretary of war about my son and that he you thought he would grant him a discharge, I would be very thankfull if you would do all for him you can and oblige me by letting me know the determination concerning him I hope you will write to the Secretary of war again immediatly and be sure and write to me as soon as you can and oblge, Mary Beckum
