To his Excellency Govenor Yates

Dear Sir haveing lately become a Citizen of Your State I wish to ask a favor of you. I formerly resided in West Tennessee and on account of my proclivities was forced by the Rebels to leave there. I sent my Plunder across the O.h. River at Paducah on the 2d day of Apr. last and Boarded my Family in McCracken County Ky untill the 17th of July. At which time I Purchased Land in Pope County Ills and Settled permanently on it where I am now. but at the Time the Malitia was Enrolled in Ky. I was there and was Enrolled but had bought land in Ills. and declared my intentions to become a Citizen there and had Every thing moved but My Family and did take them in a few days. now when the draft

Comes off Shall I be drafted from Kentucky or Ills I am a Citizen of Ills. and considered myself as such at the time I was enrolled in Kentucky. I have asked for a transfer to this State and it was not granted now I am willing to Serve from Ills but I dont want to take the place of an old Rebel in Kentuckey. I wish you would be good enough to Send me a letter instructing me what to do. As I look to Your Excellency for protection &c hopeing you will give your immediate attention. I am your Most Obedient Serveant
