Vermont. Dec 29th/63.

Hon. Richard Yates

Sir. I address you to know if more nurses are needed in the hospitals and if there are, to offer myself as one. I am twenty four years of age .

My brother has fallen in this struggle, and I may not take his place in the ranks; but if you will permit me, I may by care and attendance upon sick and wounded to restore to the ranks, or to their friends; some ones brother, son or husband. I do not

know that I am addressing the proper person upon this subject; but will you please make my application known to the proper offices.

Respectfully

Laura E. Kirkpatrick.
