Honl. Richard Yates
Dear Sir
Many of our citizens are of the opinion that our regiment, the 93d., could be ordered home, say to Chicago, to recruit, our quota of volunteers could be raised in short order.
This regiment, although one of the latest in the field, shows a roll of losses that older regiments might well feel proud of.
In their short service they have been at Jackson, Champion's Hill, Vicksburgh and Chattanooga; and they have a list of battle casualties, brilliant and melancholy; 300 men and more, killed wounded and missing in about one year.
A heavy total of deaths in hospital and sick discharges added, reduces their effective force to some few few over 200 men -
Mr Lovejoy, has written home that the Secretary of War has issued an order for the return of the regiment to Illinois as soon as the Commanding General deems it prudent for the interests of the service &c
Now if it strikes you favorably and you think that you could by a hint or a request to
said Commanding General assist him in coming to such conclusion or expedite the operation of such conclusion if he be already thereto inclined, we would like to have you so exert your influence
We are fully aware that there are many requests for your influence in such matters and we would not trespass upon you in this behalf, unless it were that we think that the very severe treatment our regiment has received at the hands of the enemy merits your consideration and that we think, nay we are convinced, that their presence would give a strong impetus to recruiting in Bureau County.
Respectfully Yours

Wishes the Governor to use his influence to have the 93rd Regt ordered home. Thinks they could soon fill their quota if this regt could be permitted to recruit in that County.
