His Exclency Gov Yates

Sir, after my best wishes for your good health and the complete success of your administration

I will sejest that you organize a force at this point, we want a battery and at least one Regiment we can Raise them without any trouble in this vicinity. Shawneetown is an important point bing near the mouth of the Wabash and above the mouth of Tennesee & Cumberland River My two sons and only children have joined the army and I would like to be in it myself but being about the age of old Abe It precludes me If however I can Receive the appoint ment of pay or quarter master I will take pride in the Discharge of the Duties Devolving upon that officer I feel Desirous to be with my sons and Do something for my country under the Stars and Stripes with much esteem & high Regard I Remain your obedent servent Gov Yates
