Lieut. Col. James Oakes.

Asst. Provost Mr Gen. & Ills.

Dear Sir I am directed by His Excellency Governor Yates to request you to communicate such information as you may have in relation to return of regiments from the field on Expiration of term of enlistment or upon Veterans furlough Please give designation of each regiment, number of men and time that arrivals may be anticipated so far as advised. It is frequently the case that Commanding Officers neglect to inform the Governor when on [en?] route for home & when they will arrive which prevents preparation for reception &c
