Hon J. G. Cornick Mayor &c
Capt. R. D. Noleman.
& Mr. Fletcher Editor "Sentinel"
Centralia Ills.
Gentlemen: I desire specially to call your attention to the case of Mrs. Mary Thompson, a widow lady, who with her family of six children have taken up residence in your place/ She is the widow of Dr. Thompson (formerly of Hot Springs Arkansas) who was "Chief of Guides" on General Steeles Staff and was a firm Union man from the commencement of the Rebellion and has rendered services to our cause which should
endear his family to every loyal man or community where they may reside.
I am not clearly advised as to the circumstances of Mrs. T. but request that her welfare may be looked after and such aid and sympathy afforded by your people as may be found proper.
General Steele says that Dr. Thompson's advice and knowledge of the Country and Services saved his Army in the Camden campaign. Subsequent to the return from that expedition Dr. T. died of injuries received and disease contracted in service.
Please write me as to her affairs when you become advised &c.
Very truly Yrs
Richd Yates
