Hon Gov yates Sir I take this Liberty of adressing you a few lines to know if you could give me a wright of becoming an assistent sergen in the St. Clear County Regement or to esist eny of the sergens in the war department or hospital at or near Cairo I have not Eny Relations in the war as I no of But I know that i could make my Self very usefull should thare be Eney nead of a docter in the hospitel I folow the practis of Medison in St Clear Count and when at home Live in the villedg of Summerfield three miles East of Lebanon 27 miles from St. Louis on the Ohio and Missippi Rail Road whare I could wait in Rediness if I should be neaded


untill cald for or if neaded in belvill could go thare my sirvices shall be Renderd free whyle the War Lastes for Reference I can give if Required from the Best persons in the county of St Clear and they want me to go to thare assistence in case thay are sick if you will grant me a pass from hear for Cairo so that I can go by the O and M Rail Road I can stop at my Residence and Remain untill cald out
