Sir,
In reply to your communication of the 13h instant, relating to the 17th Regiment Illinois Cavalry, I am instructed by the Secretary of War to inform you that this Regiment will be required in the South West, and that it will be equipped at St Louis, or some other point by the Cavalry Bureau in the West.
