Head Qurs. Co. G. 112th Regt. Ill. Vol. Infy.
Mount Sterling Ky. Feby 26th 1864
To his Excellency,
Hon. Richd Yates,
Governor of the State of Illinois,
Dear Sir,
Enclosed I send you an application signed by every officer of the 112th Regt. Ill. Vol. Infy. who is present with the Regt. desiring you to use your influence to have Col. Henderson promoted to a Brigadier General. I am entirely confident that those officers who are absent would only desire the opportunity to add their names to the list with the utmost cheerfulness, for there is no officer in the service who is more highly respected by his officers and men than is Col. Henderson. It is only for his own sake that the officers desire his promotion, feeling that he deserves it, for his bravery, faithfulness in the discharge of his duty, and long term of service in the army.
If the 112th Reg't. has gained any reputation in this war it is due to the efforts of Col. Henderson above.
This petition enclosed was written and circulated without any suggestions from Col. Henderson, and hi did not even know that any such thing was thought of until it was placed in his hands signed by every officer present with the Regiment.
Hoping that you will consider this petition favorably and use your utmost efforts to procure Col. Hendersons promotion I remain
With Much Respect
Your Obd't Serv't
