Dear Sir,

I have the honor to acknowledge the reciept of your final report, bearing date May 15th, of the military expedition commanded by you which moved from Chicago towards Cairo on the 21st ult. in pursuance of orders from this Department and arrived at Cairo on the 22d ult.

The Commander in Chief in this officially acknowledging the receipt of your report, takes pleasure in assuring you, and through you the officers and men under your command, that the promptness, energy and skill displayed by yourself and those associated with you in carrying out the orders from this Department connected with your expedition to Cairo are fully and cordially approved.
