My dear Sir

Some three weeks since you kindly consented to take a small box directed to Major I.S. Thurston Paymaster USA. at Vicksburg and deliver it to him, provided he was there. You gave it to your good lady onboard the Boat.

Major Thurston had left on your arrival, shall I please trouble you Governor, to let me know what disposition you made of it as Major T. is now stationed at Memphis & is anxious to have his medal, as an honorary member of Maj Genl. McPhersons staff

With my kind regards to Mrs Yates

I am Very Respectfully Your Obt Servant
