I wrote you some time ago and said to you that I wished you to use your influence in getting my Brother M.B. Kelly appointed Chaplin in the reagiment at Anna. He is now first Lieutenant his Company having disbanded he made up another and they are alreaddy Sworn in
Now thare is a strong disposition to get Post of this place appointed and as he has not enlisted and is now getting a Salery of 600.00 dollars a year which is twelve dollars for each Sermond he Preaches, I think this aught to be given to Some one that has the Patriotism to enlist and as you know the President has the appointment I think if you would Place him in Possesion of these facts he would give it to him, and I want him to get it worse than he does him Self as I know it would Suit him mutch better than the military. Pleas attend to this at once, or it will be too late. Thare is still a bad State of things about Marion. they have drove the editor of thair Papper off and threttened the lives of Union me amongst whome is Dr Owen of BaneBridge. Something must be done

Will Gov. Yates aid the writer of this letter by furthering his wishes to secure the appt. of his brother, Rev Mordecai B. Kelly Chaplain to his regiment? No man is more true, brave and devoted that Rev. Mr. K. and an able preacher withal. He is nephew to Gov. Bartley of Ohio, and has resided and preached 20 years in 9th Congressional district. No man is more esteemed.
