To His Excellency R. Yates Springfield Ills

Dear Sir

I have learned that my old Regt 87th Ills Vols will likely be organized into Regular Cavalry And if So I do not wish to take Command of the Regt Again

You will not therefore do anything in relation to setting aside the order Accepting my Resignation As I know nothing of the Cavalry Drill and think I would not like the Cavalry Service

Learning that his Regt. the 87th. is to be organized into a Cavalry Regt. Not knowing anything of Cvy drill does not desire to again assume the Command. His Resignation will therefore be allowed to take its Course -
