If consistent with the interests of the service, I would respectfully request, that the furlough of Joseph Meyer Co H. 27th Regt Ills Vols, which expires on the 7th of May, be extended for twenty days longer.

Respectfully returned to Lieut Gov Hoffman with the information that furloughs can in no case be extended. The man should report as soon as able to travel. A certificate from a physician attested by a magistrate or Notary Public that the physician giving said Certificate is is a respectable practitioner should be obtained and presented by the man when he reports, showing that he was not able to report when his furlough expired
