To His Excellency Gov R Yates

Dear Sir

While I was at

Springfield on Businefs Simon M.

Preston who was acting as Regimental

Instructor got up a petition to supersede

me as Colonel I do not know how

many men signed the petition; but

it was circulated under false

pretenses - and if it reaches you

I hope you will give me an

opertunity to explain if you think

it worthy of any notice

I have discharged

him from all positions in the

Regiment and as his name is not

on any Muster Roll he cannot

claim to belong here
