Richard C. Dunn Esq

Toulon Ills.

Dear Sir:

Owing to the immense pressure of public business, it was impossible for Gov. Yates to reply to Your letter ere this and he now directs me to write you that engagements previously entered into will make it impossible for him to make any promise in regard to speaking at your place. If possible he will certainly do so before the election and notify You in time. The duties of his office are really so important and the labor connected therewith so great that it is impossible for him to make near as many addresses as he would like to.

He desires me to express his thanks for your kind and flattering invitation and wishes you success in the good cause.

Very Respectfully &c.

Simon Hirschbach
