Hon C W McLain

Charleston Coles Co

Dear Sir:

At the suggestion of Hon Jessie K Dubois and other prominent citizens, the Governor has gone to Washington in order to get the soldiers home to vote,

He has directed me to write you expressing his regrets that he cannot be present to fill his appointment in your County--

While he deeply regrets that he must disappoint you, yet he feels that he can do better for the cause by going to Washington to secure the vote of every available man.

I trust you will be able to secure other speakers and will have a glorious meeting

Very Respectfully

Your Obed't Servt
