John Olney,

Olney, Attorney at Law.

Camp Douglas at Anna, Illinois

June 16th 1861.

My Dear Sir:

I did not intend to be offensive. I regret that my language was liable to that construction. I looked at my own troubles through the small end of the glass and at the troubles of others through the large end.

Your letter has given me great satisfaction mingled with regret that I should for a moment have supposed that you entertained for me any other than kind and friendly feelings.

I am sincerely & truly

Your devoted friend

John Olney.

To His Excellency

Gov. Richard Yates,

Springfield Ill.
