Description
"The Dream," an oil painting by French artist Edouard Detaille, depicts sleeping French soldiers dreaming of the glory of France's Grand Army. This copy was brought to John Charles Black from Paris by his son in 1908. Black was a Union Army Lieutenant Colonel and Brevet-Brigadier General during the American Civil War, a U.S. Congressman, and a U.S. District Attorney at Chicago.
