Dear Governor

I am not certain that I gave you the name of the young officer, who is now in Paine's Regiment, and who would like to be in the cavalry as Captain. It is Frederick P. Ledergerber of St. Clair Cy. He will make a capital officer. He is 26 years of age, a good Republican, and has rendered excellent service in all the political campaigns. He will even make as good a major of cavalry as most applicants probably. He is the son of an officer, and a splendid horseman, a native of Illinois.
