Dear Sir

excuse me for entrudeing on your time, but there an old gentleman here by the name of Jesse Whitaker who commanded a company of Ky. riflemen in 1814 and held a commission in the home Malitia of Ky. for twelve years. he has since held county office in Vigo Co., Ind. he offered his services to a volenteer company here but was not accepted on account of age he is a well deciplined officer sixty-six years old stouter than most of the young men in this country. If you should see proper to give him any military appointment it will be confered on a worthy man one who has seen active service and he will most assuredly accept it his addres is Tuscola, Ill. I remain your most obedient servant
