To his Excellency Gov Yates

Sir I have the honor to recommend to your favorable consideration the bearer "Mac de Grover" a private in Battery D 1st Ills Artly. He is a hard working indefatigable and energetic fellow, full of that life and enthusiasm which should always be found in the soldier and education sufficient to make him a good officer. I have had him on duty with me over 4 months and can therefore vouch for his good conduct and a thorough knowledge of his duties
