To His Excellency Richard Yates

Governor of Illinois:

Dear Sir:

J. P. Gains, Esq of Cass County has a son in the 101st Reg Ill Vol. who has been in service since the organization of that Reg. and who has been very sick since, the 1st day of Jan 1864, and is now at Jeffersonville Indiana.

Esq Gains is One of our best Union men, and is only anxious to have his son home on furlough until he recovers his health. - Will you therefore - for the purpose of aiding him as to his son, add one word favoring his mission and oblige &c C.J. Ketcham.
