Hon Richard Yates

Gov State Illinois --

Dear Sir

A recent trip to New York from which place I have but this morning returned, will I trust be a sufficient apology for delay in acknowledging your favor of the 29th ult.

I thank you very much for your carte d'viste to which your autograph is subscribed. I shall place it with much pleasure in my photographic Album with cartes of other distinguished personages.

I must decline receiving any money from you for subscription to my paper. If it pleases you, I am more than amply compensated by your good opinion.

I have several relatives in New York who are your warm admirers however, and if you could spare me two or three more of your Cartes De Visite with your signature attached, I should esteem it a great favor to forward them where they would be highly appreciated. Hoping that continued success and prosperity may crown your future, as it has signally marked your past career, and that you may continue to be as warmly [illegible] by true patriots as [illegible] hated by Copperheads - I have the honor to be

Very Respectfully

Your Obdt Servt

Stanley G. Fowler
