Dear Sir; Your letter requesting assistance to procure the discharge of your Brother Henry C Peak a Prisoner of War at Camp Douglas came during my absence at Washington which will account for delay in reply. I have written to the Commandant at that Camp requesting that Henry C. may be permitted to take the oath of allegiance and affirmed my belief that he will religiously observe it and hope he will be discharged. Will send you the answer when received
You can visit Camp Douglas & have an interview under the restrictions usual in all cases. Present this letter to the Commandant which will vouch for your loyalty &c &c
