Colonel,

His Excellency Governor Yates, desires me to transmit to you the enclosed letter of Mr. Caspar Nolde which was sent to the Governor by Hon. Francis A. Hoffman, and to direct your special attention to the same.

Mr. Nolde is recommended by Lt Gov. Hoffman as a strictly reliable and respectable gentleman, whose statements are entitled to full credence. His Excellency requests that an investigation into this case may be had as soon as possible and if the statement of Mr Nolde is found to be


correct, then the necessary steps be taken to have young Nolde discharged.
