Lieut Col. James Oakes.

4th US Cav.

Sup't of Recruiting Service

Springfield Ills.

Dear Sir:

Capt. D Gillespie Co. 10th Regt. Ills. Vols. was delayed on the route home from Quincy to Chester Illinois four days longer than it usually requires to make that journey. The recruitment of the company and interests of the regiment would be greatly subserved by so modifying the order of Capt G. as to admit of his reporting the company at Quincy, the general rendezvous of the Regt, on the 27th or 28th present Month instead of 23rd as now ordered or as required by the furlough.

I sincerely wish it may be within limit of your orders or discretion to do this.

Very Respectfully

Richd Yates
