Hon. Edwin M Stanton

Secretary of War.

Washington City D.C.

Dear Sir: I would respectfully recommend Capt. Gustavus Aellarsh of Co D. 10th Regt Ills Cavalry as a most competent and deserving officer for appointment or assignment to duty of Inspector of Cavalry horses at Chicago Illinois or at some other point in the West. where the services of an honest and consciencious man can be made available by the Government.

Capt M. commanded his Company in the Cavalry said from Belle Plain around Lee Army to vicinity of Richmond and Yorktown - He was wounded in right arm at Tunstall Station in engagement (Cavalry charge with the enemy, which has partially unfitted him for active field service. He

has performed good service and made a most creditable record as Cavalry Officer- He is a staunch, loyal and most worthy citizen of this State (Post Office Galesburg) and I would feel thankful if you can give his case favorable consideration.

Very Respectfully

Richd. Yates
