February 11th [186]4.
Col. John Tillson.
Comd'g 11th Regt. Ills. Vols.
Quincy.
Col.
It is found impracticable to urge at Department the appreciation for Extension of furlough of Capt Gillespie Co I. of you command. I would however remark that the War Dept would doubtless grant my request but it would require more time than would be necessary to adjust difficulty which might possibly arise if Capt. G. should find it advisable or necessary to extend furlough of his company until the 28th of Feby but beyond which time he should not delay an hour.
I assume responsibility in view of (in my judgment) the absolute necessity of his delaying report, of advising you or him to arrange for reception of his company on 28th at general rendezvous at Quincy, and will stand by you in any complications which such action may produce
Very truly Yrs
Richd. Yates
Governor of Ills.
