Am in receipt of your letter requesting information as to the best mode to procure release of your Wife's Brother a prisoner of war at Rock Island.

All matters pertaining to the custody and disposition of prisoners is in hands of Col. Wm Hoffman Commissary Genl of Prisoners at Washington, to whom I would advise you to write giving No of Regt to which your friend belongs together with statement of reasons which leads him to the step you mention. Will aid you in any way I can.
