I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of Capt Jerry N. Hills letter to you dated July 18th 1864. in reference to the state of affairs at Paris Ills. forwarded by you to these Head Quarters. and I am instructed to say that the troops now at Paris Ills have been ordered to remain.

The Union Citizens should be advised to Organize themselves to assist the Military authorities as much as possible.
