Hon. Richd. Yates

Gov. of Illinois

Dear Sir,

I have been informed by Mr. Arnold, that, Mr. Lincoln has expressed a desire to give me an appointment.

Now my Dear Sir, will you be kind enough to give me a very few words in a note to Mr. Lincoln, to encourage the desire on his part. I know you signed my petition, but I presume he will never see that. All I ask now is that Mr. Lincoln may know your wishes with reference to my application. I hope that this

may find you not quite so much pressed with business as when I have on other occasions presumed to approach you with any thing relating to myself.

Very truly your friend

as ever

J. W. Wanghop
