Camp 98th Ill Aug 7th 1864

His Excellency

Richard Yates

1st Lieut A.H. Wood Co K. 98th Ill has been on duty in this Regt from Sept 5th 1863, to the present time - having been promoted from position of Sergt of Co A 26th Ill. He has now been three years in thi service, in the 26th Ill and the 98th Ill.

I respectfully recommend him to your consideration for promotion to position of Major in some one of the new Regts, in case any such should be raised. his qualifications as a drill officer are excellent, and otherwise he is well capable of filling that position.

I have seen Leiut Wood tried a number of times upon the field, and think him a brave and efficient officer, and deserving promotion. He has rendered valuable aid to the service, through his admirable qualities as an officer in charge of the skirmish line, divers times, during the present campaign. Hoping that he will receive your favorable consideration

I remain very Respectfully
