Benton Illinois August 14th 1864

To his Excelency Richard Yates

Governer of the State of Illinois

Sir I address though an humble citizen of this Franklin County I wish to know 1st if this 16 thousand men that this State has to furnish to this present Call for five hundred thousand Can be raised by one year volunteering and Receive the 100 dollars Bounty---and if that can be done I want to know if a Veteran Soldier who is at home now on furlough can be transfered and allowed to Raise a company of men volunteering for 12 months I ask this by Request of a friend who is a member of the 40th Regt of Ills Veterans and wish an answer Soon
