Hon. Richard Yates,

Sir

I have the honor to confer with you as it regards a Black Boy I brought home with me from VicksBurg. I got a pass to bring him but did not get a permit. There is a class of men that goes by the name of Copper Head that tells me if I do not send him away they will for me. Now what shall I do in the premises, or what is best for me to do. I want to keep the Boy. I will give him a home he is only Eleven years old.

be kind enough to advise me and you will much oblige. Your Obt. Servant
