Sir:

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your favor of the 11th inst. addressed to His Exellency the Governor of Illinois, enclosing certain documents in relation to the alledged unlawful arrest of a citizen of Wisconsin by the Sheriff of Lake County. I have immediately upon receipt of these documents caused copies of the same to be made and have forwarded the same to the Sheriff of Lake County suggesting an immediate explanation.

I will endeavor to have this matter carefully investigated and [report?] [illegible] of the examination to your Excellency.

The Sheriff of Lake County has made himself liable to a severe penalty for this illegal [arrest?] but there is no provision in our laws regarding this interference of Executive in the matter.
