Hon. Richard Yates,

Dear Sir,

My nephew, Cyrus L. Edwards, has served out his three months as a private, and has determined to reenlist for three years. His family are very anxious that he shall obtain some appointment, such as assistant commissary or quartermaster. Gen John Pope advises him to apply for one or other of these offices, and suggests that it can be procured through your aid and that of other friends in Springfield. May I ask of you the favor to exert your influence in his behalf, which will be most thankfully acknowledged by his family as well as by your obt servt
