Sir:

I regret to learn the scattered condition of your regiment-It is my wish to preserve the independent organization of the 12th Ills Cavalry and if practicable add, three new companies (now being recruited) to the nine now composing it.

I think you should apply to have the regiment brought within the Department of Genl Heintzelman In that case the dispersed companies will be brought together again and a depot will be furnished to which new recruits may be

forwarded.

Should this be done, I will do all in my power to fill up by recruiting the three new companies necessary to raise the regiment to twelve companies-if permission is given me.
