Governor Yates

Dear Sir

I have two Guns 6 pounders with my regiment controlled by a squad made up of detail from my command

I would be glad to get your authority to raise and organize an artillery company in Illinois to take charge of these Guns and such other Guns as the state can furnish to me or that I can get elsewhere

These little guns came from Illinois and belong to the State and we wish to stick to them and bring them back with the regiment Could you not furnish me two more Guns

I recommend Fletchy H Chapman for Captain John [A?] Johnson for 1st Lieut and James M Eidson for 2nd Lieut.

Very respectfully

J M Palmer

Col. John M Palmer.
