Hon. Richard Yates -
Dear Sir: I don't know but that you will think I claim too much of your attention in writing two letters to you in as many days. My only excuse is the enclosed extract from the Chicago Tribune of yesterday. Provided i could not have my first choice in the matter of an appointment similar to that just conferred on Col. Louis D. Hubbard of Chicago - I would like to be one of the agents spoken of in the Tribune article. I suppose I can sufficiently master the details to discharge the duties devolving on the Major of a regiment, but one of the other positions spoken of would please me far better.
