I certify on honor that I have this day carefully Examined Wm. L. Elkin a private of "G" Company, 114th Ill. Vol. Inf. now on detached duty at the head quarters Dist of Memphis, and find that he is unfit for active service in the field, by reason of nervous debility caused by a sunstroke, which he suffered near Vicksburg in July 1863. He is fit for office or other similar light duty.
