To Hon Rich'd Yates.

Springfield Ills / Sir. as I am far away from my Command and knowing You to be a friend of the Soldier, I concluded to write You a few lines.
I belong to 92nd Ills Vols. come out on the Orgainezation of the Regt did not loose a day until I was wounded near Jonesboro. Ga. on the 31st of August last. I was unfortunately wounded through the leg, and as I have not been able to get around without Crutches, and not able to walk around "gaps" in the Railroad I was compelled to remain at Atlanta, until within a few days past, and unfortunately did not get here until it was tool late to

get home. on the call to get home before Election. I can See no immediate prospect to get from here.

You know when away from Regimental or Company Organization not being Acquainted with Your relations at home, their Solicitude goes just as far as their own convenience or interest is concerned.
I know that I have Simply done my duty in doing the best I could, & as for Myself I could Endure absence from home, but I have a family & friends who have not Seen me in over two Years, who think I might just as well be with them, until I am again fit for duty, or at least a few days.
I will close. Respectfully Submitting the above for Your kind Consideration, Yours with Respect
                                                     George Walters (over)
