Hon Richard Yates,

Dear Sir,

I received a note, a day or two since, from T. Q Hildebranch, Capt of a Company in Col March's Regt. saying that the Col had complained of him to you, with a view to prevent his being commissioned, & desiring me to do something for him.

I know little or nothing of the controvesy or its merits, & cannot therefore say much about it. But Capt H. is a citizen of this place, & one in whose success I had considerable confidence, & I feel at liberty to ask for him, what I make

no doubt he will secure, at you hands, a fair and candid hearing.

Very truly,

Your friend,

J. O Norton
