My Dear Friend

           I Rec'd of 27th Inst_ and if it was posible for me to leave home I would come this morning but this day is the end of my qr. & I have to make up my (illegible) with the Govt., & that will take a few days. I will Come as soon as that is done _
          In the mean time, don't cease working - I was Surprised to see the "Tribunes,' leader a few days Since But I Can't think it possible that they Can defeat you, Spink, let yesterday you can depend on him, Jones, is to My Knowledge right _
          I Can't see how you can be defeated, My Confidence is Strong & unwavering I am confident 

that "Chicago Tribune" movement I think will reach - You will see it turn upon them, God, & the people, will protect the right & save the just __
